Danny Rose has claimed Tottenham are “probably not going to make any signings in January”.

The England international revealed he has not heard anything behind the scenes about possible incomings at the north London club and does not expect to see any new arrivals.

Rose, who has been critical in the past of the club’s recruitment, spoke about the January window in the aftermath of Spurs qualifying for the last-16 of the Champions League.

“The manager, or the club, did not make any signings in the summer and he is probably not going to make any signings in January,” Rose said, as quoted by the Sun. “It’s no secret all the teams have spent a lot more than what we have. ”

Asked why he believes Spurs will not sign anybody in the January transfer window, Rose added: “Well, I’ve not heard anything, so I am guessing that will be the case. For him (Pochettino) to do what he has done and what he is doing now speaks volumes of him.”

OPINION

Rose will make an outstanding media pundit when he retires. Most top-level footballers speak in anodyne cliches when addressing the media, and there is little in the way of insight or genuine opinion. The Spurs left-back is a different animal. He says it as he sees it; forthright, open, straight-talking. Naturally, the media lap it up and you can be certain that Rose is top of most journalists’ post-match wish list when it comes to the choice of Spurs players to interview (whether he is in the team or not). Rose’s searing honesty has got him in hot water before, with his criticism of the club’s recruitment policy in the summer of 2017 not going down well with either his employers or supporters, and it appears to have affected his relationship with those who follow the club. There will be concern among fans that Rose, who has his ear to the ground at the club’s training HQ, has not heard anything about new arrivals. He has been at Tottenham long enough to get wind of such things when they are in the offing.
