Harry Redknapp has delivered his verdict on heavy speculation linking Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino to Manchester United, claiming he has a much better team in place at Spurs.
United sacked manager Jose Mourinho on Tuesday and the press have been quick to link Pochettino to the vacant position, which the club will fill in the summer.
Former Spurs boss Redknapp has now weighed in on the possibility of such a move, saying that the Argentine has a much better team at Tottenham and will be wary of giving that up.
Speaking to Jim White on talkSPORT on Wednesday [10:52], he said: “Would he leave Spurs to go there at the moment? He’s got a better team at Tottenham. I don’t know – I would think Daniel would be looking after him very well, I bet he’s got to be up there with the top wage earners and everything else.
“Maybe he sees Tottenham as a team that he can win trophies with?”
When asked about the draws of United, Redknapp did admit they are a huge club, but warned about the dangers awaiting their next manager.
“There’s a lot of work to be done at Man United to build a good team. Where do you get the players? Where are they?” he said.
“Where do you find players now? It’s getting more and more difficult. And they’re way short of being anywhere near the top couple of teams at the moment.”

It is no surprise to see that Redknapp has backed Tottenham to keep Pochettino away from United, but the former Spurs boss still did admit that Old Trafford is a big draw for managers. There is simply no getting away from that fact, no matter how poor the squad currently at the club may be. From Tottenham’s point of view, this now comes down to chairman Daniel Levy and his movements in the coming weeks. Pochettino quite clearly loves Tottenham and loves the project he is building, but he needs real backing in the transfer market if he is to take them to the next level. Levy simply must pull out all the stops to make that happen any way he can, or there is no doubt that Pochettino may leave. The unlimited funds on offer at United mean building a team would not be too hard for Pochettino, despite the issues at the club, and Levy must counteract that with funds of his own to prevent his exit, which would devastate the club.
