OPINION
When will Joselu ever impress in a game for Newcastle United? It is puzzling as to why Rafael Benitez selected him to start up front instead of Salomon Rondon, as the Venezuelan has been the better forward by far recently. Nevertheless, he did play and he hardly contributed anything in this 4-0 loss to the Reds – leaving the Toon Army fuming on Twitter. The one good chance he had – the opportunity to head home from a DeAndre Yedlin cross – was completely wasted and pretty much summed up his afternoon. Some of the fans here have questioned why Joselu is getting anywhere near a Premier League team like Newcastle, and it is hard not to agree with them after this display. Teams do not get many chances against top sides like Liverpool, so they need to be made the most of when they do present themselves. Joselu needs to do better, especially as one supporter branded his showing as “even more abysmal” than his usual low standards.

Joselu is simply not good enough. Not his fault but shows where we are as a club. The bloke struggled to get a game for Stoke reserves when we signed him… #nufc

Trying to think if #nufc have had a worse striker in PL era than Joselu. Andersson? Cordone? Luque? Riviere?

What an utter waste of space Joselu is man; should be nowhere near a football pitch and he knows it as well.
