Former Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has had his say on the Toon Army’s upcoming clash with Huddersfield Town this weekend.

The one-time Ballon d’Or winner believes that his former side can bounce back from their last minute defeat to Wolves on Sunday to pick up a valuable away point.

Speaking to BetVictor, he said: “The last five games between these two clubs in the top-flight of English football have seen just four goals and I expect to see another tight, close game at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“Both sides conceded late winners last weekend, and both will feel they did enough to get a draw.

“Town haven’t scored more than once in their last 13 home PL games and I feel both sides will pick up a valuable point in west Yorkshire.”

OPINION

Owen’s right to expect a cagey affair on Saturday afternoon. Neither Newcastle or Huddersfield are blessed with an abundance of attacking talent, and both sides will almost certainly feel that this is a game they cannot afford to lose. If the Terriers can sneak a result against Rafa Benitez’s side then they will draw level on points with them and drag the Magpies back into a real relegation dogfight just as they enter a manic Christmas period. If the Toon Army can win, however, which is definitely not out of the question, then they will not only pull three points away from the chaos behind them, but will enjoy a timely boost after a couple of disappointing results. This game has ‘last on Match of the Day’ written all over it, and it’s not going to be a classic by any means, but the Geordies won’t care if they can take three points back to Tyneside.
