Newcastle United are going to need goals if they are to avoid the drop, and out of favour Liverpool striker Divock Origi could be the perfect man to provide them.

In recent weeks the Magpies have been able to call on Venezuelan forward Salomon Rondon, but if they want to stay in the Premier League comfortably they cannot rely on him alone.

Various reports are suggesting that the Toon Army are preparing a January bid for Tammy Abraham, currently on at loan Aston Villa from Chelsea, but Belgian international Origi could prove to be a much better option.

Abraham has played in the Premier League before with Swansea City but struggled for consistency, and even though he has grown as a player since then, a winter swoop for the 21-year-old could prove to be a gamble for a side who need a guaranteed source of goals.

By contrast, 23-year-old Origi, out of favour at Liverpool, is a proven goalscorer at both club and international level and could provide the perfect foil for the raw physicality of Rondon.

Newcastle would likely be priced out of a permanent move for the Belgian, but a short term loan could be exactly what is needed to fire them away from their relegation woes.
