OPINION
Ki Sung-Yeung has been an unexpected hero for Newcastle United since his move from Swansea City over the summer. The South Korean has been an integral part of the Magpies’ resurgence in recent weeks, and watching him against Fulham on Saturday afternoon, it was easy to see why. The 29-year-old played with a poise and vision that few of his teammates possess, and calms the Toon Army’s midfield with moments of real quality. Like a lot of good central midfield players, he can often go unnoticed in his work, completing neat, short passes for the benefit of his team. The Magpies will miss him hugely when he meets up with his national side on Boxing Day ahead of the Asian Cup, and with Jonjo Shelvey lacking full match fitness, his absence could be massively damaging. In a season of real uncertainty for Rafa Benitez’s side, Ki has been a consistent source of positivity, and one they will want back as soon as possible.

Most frequent things heard on today’s match: Ki with a great diagonal ball, but nobody on the end of it. Diame with a dreadful touch, gives the ball away. #NUFC
