OPINION
Mo Diame is a perfect indication of the issues that Newcastle United are having on the pitch so far this season. The Senegalese international is a willing runner but consistently lacks the quality required to really make a positive impact for the Magpies.
Against Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon the 31-year-old looked like a passenger for much of the game as David Wagner’s side took control of the match in the middle of the park.
Diame isn’t necessarily a bad player, but rarely does he turn out a performance that genuinely impresses, and that has to be a worry for Rafa Benitez.
Given their current predicament the Magpies cannot afford to have a central midfielder who drifts through games and who is so painfully wasteful in possession.
It’s easy to see why fans get frustrated, and with January approaching they just be hoping that a suitable replacement is found as soon as possible.
One huge plus was the three points today – a brilliant away win, despite Diame’s display.
