Newcastle United do not have any imminent plans regarding the deal to sign Atlanta ace Miguel Almiron, according to a reliable journalist.

Lee Ryder – a Newcastle reporter for the Chronicle – has revealed via his personal Twitter account that despite there being “new claims” about Almiron’s possible switch to Tyneside, the club have indicated that “nothing is imminent on this deal.”

Almiron’s father, Ruben Almiron, recently said that his son – who has netted 13 goals this term – will move to England, and that his most likely destination will be Newcastle, but this update has suggested that the deal has not progressed recently.

OPINION

Newcastle fans will no doubt be disappointed that the deal has not progressed recently. They would have perked up after the recent claims, but this update has essentially poured cold water over their initial excitement. Yes, technically the transfer window does not open in January, but being one step ahead will allow them to complete any business early and prevent any clubs interferring with Newcastle’s interest. They must start progressing the potential deal soon as the fans will certainly start to grow frustrated with the club – after all, Almiron is a sought-after player following his exploits in the US. Hopefully a deal is struck out between Newcastle and Atlanta soon, as the Magpies would be instantly transformed with his addition. All the fans can do now is be patient and see how this saga progresses, whether Almiron ends up signing or not.
