Sky Sports journalist Pete Graves has given hope to Newcastle fans saying that Peter Kenyon’s bid to buy the club is “100% not dead”.

Graves was replying to a fan who asked if there was any truth in the rumours that Kenyon’s bid was dead.

This comes after a report in the Sun that claimed his bid was £100m short of the £300m asking price and that Mike Ashley had rejected a proposal that would see the £100m delivered only if Newcastle qualified for the Champions League in the next 10 years.

The report claimed that his takeover bid looked “dead in the water”, however Graves says this is absolutely not the case.

OPINION

It’s the takeover that keeps giving. Just when one report claims it’s dead in the water, a journalist comes along to refute it. The difference this time is that Peter Graves really knows his stuff when it comes to Newcastle and the takeover. And if we were going to trust anyone on what was going on with the takeover, it would be him. His tweet is adamant that the deal is still potentially on and the language he used – “100% not dead” – will give fresh hope to Newcastle fans everywhere. Either way it’s unlikely to have any effect on the January transfer window now, with a few days left before it opens. Benitez will probably have to manage with the players they’ve got and Ashley will be desperately hoping his manager can steer the club to Premier league safety, or he’ll see his club’s value drop dramatically. Nobody wants that.
