Newcastle United attacker Rolando Aarons is on his way back to club following the end of his loan spell with Slovan Liberec, according to the Chronicle.

The 23-year-old has spent the past six months with the Czech side, but will return to Tyneside now that his deal has come to an end.

It is understood that the Jamaican-born wide man will not be available for Rafa Benitez’s side over Christmas as he is not registered in the Premier League, but could be in contention to feature in the Checkatrade Trophy clash with Sunderland in January.

Aarons has made ten appearances in the Czech league so far this season, but has yet to register any goals or assists.

OPINION

Rolando Aarons seemed destined for big things when he made his debut for Newcastle back in 2014, but since then he has struggled to make any real impressions. Hampered by a recurrent hamstring injury, he has found himself on the periphery for a long time, and has had to seek first team football elsewhere in recent seasons. He is a player of immense talent and can be incredibly dangerous with his incisive running and direct approach, but the concern will be that he is running out of time to break into the Newcastle side. At 23 he is slightly older than your average breakout academy graduate, and he will feel the need to impress as quickly as possible. If he can catch Rafa’s eye, however, there is every chance that he could force his way into a team that has often failed to impress so far this season. The chance is there for Aarons, it remains to be seen if he can take it.
