West Ham are set to sign Samir Nasri this month following his extended trial, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim the French attacking midfielder, 31, will be offered a six-month contract by the London club that he is set to accept after impressing the club with his performances in training.

Nasri is banned from playing until the end of December but West Ham are working on a deal for him to join as soon as the transfer window opens on1 January.

OPINION

An unnecessary risk or a shrewd gamble? Many supporters of the Irons fall into the first category amid concern over the player’s history of being high maintenance and hard work for his managers. Nasri won’t be cheap, either, with widespread reports stating the deal is set to cost West Ham between £80,000-£100,000-a-week. At a time when Declan Rice is on £3,000-a-week and the club are proving reluctant to offer him a long-term contract worth even ten times that, the Premier League club are in danger of blowing a big sum on a player who hasn’t even been on the pitch in 18 months, is at the latter stage of his playing career and was always a bit porky even when he was a Premier League regular. Nasri has great technical ability, but so does Jack Wilshere, and that doesn’t mean he is the ideal signing, either. Surely, West Ham need to move away from these headline-grabbing, egocentric signings that don’t pay off.
