Mauricio Pochettino wants to be considered for the Man United manager job in the summer, according to the Times.

They claim that he thinks the job is too good to turn down despite having four-and-a-half years left on his contract.

It would cost Man United £34million in compensation to prise the Spurs manager away from north London.

The Times claims, “United are understood to be preparing an offer for Pochettino and his entire first-team coaching staff — Jesús Pérez, Toni Jiménez and Miguel D’Agostino — to move to Old Trafford, but must first reach an agreement with Tottenham.”

Pochettino thinks the job is more attractive than the Real Madrid job because it becomes available less frequently.

OPINION

Tottenham fans look away now. This would be a disaster if it was true, although the £34million would come in handy in helping to pay for the new stadium. The overriding belief was that Pochettino wouldn’t want the United job at the moment, with the state the team is in and with the way things are going at Tottenham. But, United are one of the two biggest clubs in world football and the report claims Pochettino believes that if he is supported in the transfer market, he can achieve great things at Old Trafford. That really is bad news for Tottenham, although they may have brought some of this on themselves after not supporting Pochettino in the summer transfer window. Money won’t be an issue for Man United, although it will bring their spending up to a cool £50million to replace Mourinho after reports that he is set to be paid £15million compensation after being sacked. They’ll want to get it right next time.
