Manchester City are keen to snap up Groningen starlet Ritsu Doan in the January transfer window, according to TEAMtalk

The football outlet report that Pep Guardiola’s side are worried that the 20-year-old Japan international forward will be tied down by another major European side, with several top clubs linked with him in recent months.

TEAMtalk claim that City are confident of striking a deal for Doan in the January window, with the club then happy for him to remain in the Netherlands to continue his development.

It is said that the Eredivisie side see the Japanese attacker as their best prospect since Arjen Robben.

Good move for Manchester City?

Absolutely.

Doan is clearly an extremely highly-rated talent, and looks like he has a huge future in the game if he continues his development in the right way.

The 20-year-old has four goals and two assists in 15 games for Groningen this season, but those numbers do not reflect his quality and potential in full.

City would do well to tie up a deal for Doan in January, with other giants sniffing around.

Likely to happen?

It looks like City are confident they can seal a deal for Doan in the January window, with the Japan international then likely to remain in the Netherlands for another season or so.

He is clearly not quite ready for the Premier League, and the Eredivisie is a brilliant place for him to continue his progress for the time being.
