Paul Merson has predicted Liverpool will win by a landslide against Wolves on Friday night.

The high-profile pundit told Sky Sports that the Merseyside giants will hammer the Midlands club and foresees a 4-0 triumph for them at Molineux in the first of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures.

“It’s a nice big pitch for Liverpool, Wolves do try and play and are a good team, but I just can’t see how they’re going to live with Jurgen Klopp’s side,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Wolves were worthy winners against Bournemouth, and some may look at this result and think: ‘Wow, are you joking?’ but I just think with Liverpool’s pace and defensive solidity, they dictate the game and win it comfortably.

“I have been very impressed with Wolves this season. Four might be harsh, but if Liverpool get going like they did against Bournemouth, I can see them doing the same.”

OPINION

Some of Merson’s predictions come back to haunt him – he is not alone among pundits in that – but the Arsenal legend knows his onions. He also knows a decent side when he sees one, and Klopp’s table-toppers are developing into a magnificent outfit fit for all seasons and all opponents. Liverpool’s best performance this season came 12 days ago when they walloped Bournemouth 4-0 at the Vitality Stadium and, as Merson points out, there are clear similarities between Wolves and Eddie Howe’s team, both of whom are easy on the eye and have a clearly identifiable playing style. Liverpool have followed up their masterclass against Bournemouth with landmark triumphs against Napoli and Manchester United, to leave them challenging strongly in both the Premier League and Champions League. Wolves drew against Manchester City earlier in the campaign, but they will do very well to stop this increasingly impressive Merseyside team leaving Molineux with all three points.
