Liverpool are “on the verge” of signing Borussia Dortmund sensation Christian Pulisic after tabling an opening bid of £45million, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim the Merseyside giants are likely to seal a deal for the Bundesliga 20-year-old by next Tuesday if they increase their bid by £5million to £50million.

The Sun report Liverpool’s American owners Fenway Sports Group have given the green light for the club to seal a deal for Pulisic and Jurgen Klopp is ready to seal an early-January deal.

Good move for Liverpool?

Definitely. Pulisic has started only five Bundesliga matches this season after being leapfrogged by another brilliant young attacker in Englishman Jadon Sancho, but he has the skill, talent and blistering pace to make a huge impact at Liverpool. The 23-times USA international has a hugely impressive record given that he is barely out of his teens – 15 goals and 24 assists from 115 first-team appearances at Germany’s second biggest club. But it is his potential to develop into a superstar that is so exciting and has had so many elite clubs beating a path to his door in recent years. Liverpool would pull off a blinder if they could get this deal done in January.

Likely to happen?

In January? It had appeared unlikely, but Pulisic has lost his regular starting place at Dortmund and talks over a new contract have been frozen. He is heading for the exit door and it appears a matter of when, not if, he links up with a Premier League club. Liverpool face major competition for the American’s services, but are in pole position to get a deal done.
