Liverpool can recall Harry Wilson from his season-long loan at Derby County in the January window, it has been confirmed.

Derby manager Frank Lampard revealed at his media conference on Thursday that the Merseyside giants can take advantage of a recall option in the deal agreed with the Championship outfit in the summer.

Lampard explained that his club are in regular talks with the Premier League title challengers about Wilson’s progress and “there has been constant dialogue with myself, Liverpool and Harry” in what is a “very open conversation”.

“There is an element where Liverpool can call him back in early January,” Lampard said, as quoted by Derbyshire Live. “That is a conversation between the clubs.

“Liverpool run a fantastic department in terms of looking after their loans players. We have a lot of chat with them. We will just have to see how that goes.

“At the minute he’s our player, and of course we want him to stay our player for the course of the season because he is contributing.

“Since Harry came there has been constant dialogue with myself, Liverpool and Harry. It is very open conversation.”

OPINION

Wilson is delivering the goods to such an extent for Derby that a considerable section of Liverpool fans have urged their club to bring him back from Derby in January. Lampard has now revealed for the first time there is the possibility for the Merseyside giants to do so, and that there are constant talks about the player’s progress in England’s second tier between the clubs involved. Given that there is an army of attacking talent blocking Wilson’s way at Anfield, where Mohamed Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri are the first choices in the right flank role that the left-footed star favours, it is likely that only a serious injury or two is going to persuade his parent club to terminate what has been a very successful loan so far. Wilson has made a huge impact for Derby, scoring eight goals from 18 matches in all competitions, including four in his last three league matches. The 21-year-old looks like a special talent who can thrive at elite Premier League level, but he is best staying at Derby unless the Merseysiders are hit by forward injury calamity over the coming weeks.
