Liverpool rising star Bobby Duncan is to be offered a new contract by the club just months after signing  from Manchester City, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim the Merseyside giants are preparing an “improved contract” for the 17-year-old amid interest from a number of Bundesliga clubs looking for the next Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson.

The Times report Duncan is scoring prolifically for the Liverpool Under-18s after being prised from City over the summer for a compensation fee of £200,000.

OPINION

For a youth-team striker, there is plenty of noise being generated by Duncan. This is partly because he is the cousin of club icon Steven Gerrard, but mainly because he is a shimmering talent doing big things at youth-team level. His goal for the Under-18s in last Friday’s 2-1 defeat to Derby County was his 12th of the season, and seventh in nine matches, which, along with a series of eyecatching performances, have got fans talking about a potential first-team star of the future. Duncan has already been compared to Scouse legends Wayne Rooney and Robbie Fowler for his precociousness in his teens, borne from a powerful man-child physique as well as footballing gifts that suggest he could be something special. Liverpool and their supporters know a thing or two about decent strikers, including those honed in their academy, and they are starting to get very excited about this young buck.
