Rhian Brewster has attracted plenty of attention after his exploits for England and Liverpool at age-group level.

But the 18-year-old forward working his way back to fitness following serious injury could have to play second fiddle to another brilliant young striker at Anfield over the coming years.

That player is Bobby Duncan, the 17-year-old cousin of Steven Gerrard who is making a real name for himself following an outstanding first few months at the club.

Remarkably, Duncan scored four times for Liverpool Under-18s in their 6-5 win over Middlesbrough last Saturday and, for good measure, provided assists for the other two goals from his side.

Duncan has banged in 16 goals already for the age-group side this season but is more than just a goal machine. He is a team player, too, supplying a hugely impressive eight assists as well.

Those are persuasive numbers, and he is providing a compelling case to be promoted to the Under-23s in the very near future, especially as that side is lacking a natural goalscorer.

There is a growing sense that Duncan is a sensation, capable of taking a few massive steps very quickly and eventually making the Liverpool senior side, despite the intense competition for attacking players.

Brewster, who came close to quitting Liverpool for a Bundesliga club over the summer before eventually agreeing a new long-term contract, has been spoken of by Jurgen Klopp as a player capable of developing into a first teamer.

Could Duncan now leapfrog the man 22 months his senior?

He looks a superlative young talent, is scoring goals for fun and, like Brewster, has represented England extensively at age-group level.

Duncan is starting to look more and more like the next Liverpool sensation.
