Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Liverpool’s Premier League showdown against Manchester United on Sunday, according to a Daily Express journalist.

Ryan Taylor has reported on his personal Twitter account that Alexander-Arnold is ruled out with a foot injury sustained in Tuesday night’s Champions League win against Napoli.

Taylor explained that the right-back is currently wearing a protective boot and James Milner is expected to replace him on the right side of defence.

OPINION

This is a shattering blow and comes just over 24 hours after Liverpool announced that Joel Matip, another Tuesday night hero, will be out for six weeks with a fractured collarbone. Alexander-Arnold was nailed on to start at Anfield on Sunday after being given a breather last weekend against Bournemouth to ensure he could play the marquee Napoli and United fixtures. He is the first choice on the right side of defence because of his mobility, energy and growing expertise in both halves of the pitch. Milner filled in impressively last weekend against Bournemouth and is a seasoned campaigner who can be relied upon to follow Jurgen Klopp’s instructions to the very letter. He is a superb athlete but doesn’t have Alexander-Arnold’s rampaging qualities and Liverpool will miss their young flyer. That said, Klopp knows what he’s getting with Milner and he is unlikely to let anyone down.
