Roberto Firmino has struggled to recapture the magical form that made him such a lethal part of Liverpool’s attacking lineup under Jurgen Klopp last season. The Brazilian has looked less sharp than he has in previous years and has scored just four goals in 15 Premier League appearances so far this term. Down on the south coast on Saturday afternoon, the forward put in a stellar display, twice turning provider for Mo Salah as the Reds romped to a 4-0 victory that saw them move to the top of the league. If the 27-year-old is returning to form, it couldn’t have come at a better time for him or his club. With Daniel Sturbridge providing competition in a way that he didn’t last year, and with Divock Origi announcing his return to first team contention with the winner in last weekend’s derby day victory over Everton, then Firmino faces some serious challenges for his starting role. The competition could spur him on bigger and better things, and Jurgen Klopp will be rubbing his hands at the prospect.
