Jurgen Klopp has been blown away by Tottenham’s results this season after a series of major hurdles were placed in their way.

The Liverpool manager hailed Spurs as one of the challengers for the league title along with his own side, Arsenal and Chelsea as he hailed Manchester City as big favourites to hold on to their crown.

Klopp has been very impressed by how Mauricio Pochettino’s team have overcome so much adversity to go into the weekend third in the league and well placed to push the top two.

“Tottenham have so many injury problems, the shortest break after the World Cup, I don’t know how many Belgian and English players they had, no pre-season and won all the games in a difficult situation,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “Now they are six points behind us. Wow. That’s really massive.”

OPINION

Klopp is right to drool over Spurs hanging on the coat-tails of the two brilliant sides at the top of the Premier League. Indeed, in most other seasons of the last 30 years, the Londoners’ haul of 13 win and 39 points from 17 league matches would be ample to put them at the summit. Pochettino has worked wonders not only on a shoestring budget, but also given the challenges placed before him after a fallow summer transfer window. A slew of key-player injuries has barely abated since the campaign began, but the Argentine maestro continues to rotate, tweak and manipulate his team so it’s able to win all the matches they would be expected to, as well as plenty they wouldn’t, including Wednesday’s League Cup quarter-final at bitter rivals Arsenal. Little wonder Manchester United are willing to offer Spurs the earth to secure Pochettino and persuade him to wriggle out of the five-year contract he signed in May.
