Fiorentina may reignite their interest in Wolves midfielder Leander Dendoncker in the January transfer window, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian football outlet report that Fiorentina had been hunting Dendoncker a year ago when he was still with former club Anderlecht, with the 23-year-old eventually joining Wolves on loan with obligation to buy in the summer,.

Calciomercato claim that La Viola may now kickstart another hunt for the Belgium international, who has been totally out of favour under Nuno Espirito Santo at Molineux this season.

Good move for Wolves?

No.

The 6’2″ enforcer [Transfermarkt] may have made just three appearances for the club so far since his summer move, but the young enforcer is a quality player and will come good at Molineux.

The reasons behind his continued omission are unknown, but letting him leave just six months after arriving would achieve nothing and could end up being something the club regret.

They must hold on to Dendoncker until the summer, when his move becomes permanent, and hope that he shows his true colours at some point before then.

Likely to happen?

No.

Firstly, Fiorentina’s interest does not look too strong, with the report merely suggesting that they may come back in for him.

Secondly, the technicalities of such a deal would be seriously complicated, with Dendoncker technically not yet a Wolves player until the summer.

How a deal would be worked out with Anderlecht still technically involved is not clear, and would likely be a major obstacle to any switch taking place.
