OPINION

Everton returned to winning ways after securing a resounding victory over Burnley on Wednesday, with Lucas Digne’s free-kick one of the highlights.

His magnificent effort ensured that the Toffees got a win after a few games of trying, with goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson, Yerry Mina and Richarlison rounding off a superb result.

Marco Silva will no doubt be relieved that his team are starting to find the back of the net once again after a rather poor run recently, with his side now sitting in eighth place in the Premier League.

This is Futbol has rounded up three things learned about Everton v Burnley:

Digne was the star of the show

What is it about Lucas Digne and his free kicks? First he curls in an excellent effort to earn a draw against Watford a few weeks ago, now he nets another magnificent effort in this goal rout. One thing is for sure – Digne should definitely remain as Everton’s main free kick taker from now on. There are no other players in the team who can produce free-kick efforts like he does, and fans are no doubt delighted that they have a player like Digne on their books.

Calvert-Lewin stepped up to the plate

Dominic Calvert-Lewin deserves to be starting in place of the woeful Cenk Tosun, and he really stood up to the plate when he needed to. The 6ft 2in [Transfermarkt] dazzler gladly accepted the challenge, and he certainly did not show signs of stage fright with his display. He bullied the opposition centre-backs as much as he could, and held the ball up to bring his teammates into play. A very calm, composed performance from a player who is only 21-years-old.

Walcott should be pushed further forward

Theo Walcott usually plays in his preferred position on the right wing, and despite the fact he was rather quiet in the first half, he was unlucky not to have got on the scoresheet. He stepped up a gear in the second half, and later on in this period, he seems to play more of a striker role. This did wonders to his style of play, and this was when he really came into his own. Silva now needs to deploy him further forward in order to get the best out of him from now on.
