Sigurdsson praises impact of Silva’s signings

|

Everton midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has praised manager Marco Silva’s signings as the reason for the Toffees’ improvement this season, name-checking defender Lucas Digne.

The Blues play Watford on Monday night knowing that a win would see them leapfrog Manchester United into sixth in the table.

Speaking ahead of the clash, as quoted in the Sun, the Icelandic midfielder said: “The new players have been fantastic. They have helped us score lot of goals, with a lot of creativity going forward and speed.

“I think all the players who have come in – not just the attacking players, the centre-halves and Lucas as well – have been fantastic and fitted in really well.

“They suit the way the manager wants us to play.

“It feels natural playing with the guys now and that comes with the work we’ve been doing on the training pitch.”

OPINION

For the first time in a long time Everton are making the sort of transfers that suggest they might finally be able to compete with the top six. Signing players from the likes of Barcelona, and splashing out large sums of money to secure the services of  player like Richarlison are statements of intent that will have Toffees fans delighted. More important than the outlay, however, is the fact that Silva is investing in players intended to fit into a specific vision with a specific style of play in mind. In that respect, the Portuguese manager is building an identity based on creativity and pace, and n of an will complain when given those two in combination. The key thing to remember as well is that Silva has only been in charge at Goodison Park for a few months, and if the Blues can keep a hold of one of the most exciting bosses in the English game, they could be on the cusp of something brilliant.
