OPINION
Everton’s decision to bring in Kurt Zouma on loan from Chelsea over the summer is continuing to pay dividends. The Frenchman, after a shaky start to life at Goodison Park, has really found some form, and looks tailor made for a role in the back three system that Marco Silva prefers. Athletic and surprisingly quick, Zouma is also an incredibly intelligent defender whose reading of situations quite often bails him and his teammates out of a lot of trouble. Against Brighton on Saturday the 24-year-old looked sharper and hungrier than the rest of his side, and will feel hugely aggrieved that his colleagues couldn’t muster the same kind of performance that he did. It’s odd to point to a defender as a standout out player in a defeat for his side, but Zouma’s attitude and application was exemplary. If the rest of Marco Silva’s men played with the same fire in their bellies, maybe Everton could finally stop dropping points in such a disappointing manner.
