Chelsea have approached Barcelona over the prospect of signing Denis Suarez, according to El Gol Digital.

The Spaniard has struggled to force himself into Ernesto Valverde’s plans this season, and finds himself way down the pecking order at the Catalan giants, beneath the likes of Arturo Vidal and Carlos Alena.

Maurizio Sarri’s side have made the midfielder a ‘very juicy offer’, according to El Gol, and it is understood that Suarez, who has won the Spanish league title with Barcelona, is happy to accept should the two clubs come to an agreement.

With opportunities limited for the former Villarreal man, it is understood that he is keen to leave Camp Nou, and will look to facilitate a move should the chance arise.

Good move for Chelsea?

In truth, Chelsea don’t need another technical central midfielder. Jorginho, N’golo Kante, and Ross Barkley seem fairly settled in the centre of the park, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic providing good competition. Cesc Fabregas can’t get anywhere near the first team and there are rumours that he could be headed to AC Milan in the near future, but Sarri would essentially be signing a replacement for a player who barely gets a look in as it is. Suarez may be available on the cheap, and there is no doubting that he has the potential to be a top quality addition, but it would surely be a better idea for Chelsea to invest that money elsewhere.

Likely to happen?

Suarez is desperate to leave Barcelona, and for good reason. Competition is fierce and the likelihood of him establishing himself as a regular first team option is very slim at the moment. Chelsea seem tempted by his availability, and the asking price would presumably be more than affordable, even in January, so his addition is a very real possibility, especially if Cesc Fabregas leaves. Despite having a wealth of young talent out on loan it is more likely that Sarri would look to sign a replacement for Fabregas, even though the Spanish playmaker is rarely involved in his plans. Should Fabregas move, then Suarez could very well be on his way to Stamford Bridge.
