Russell Brand has singled out West Ham striker Javier Hernandez for praise with the Mexico international having scored four goals in his last six appearances.

The 5ft 9in forward [Transfermarkt] has struggled for form since his £16million move from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017, but looks like he is getting back to his best under Manuel Pellegrini.

Comedian and actor Brand, who is a dedicated Hammers fan, has now heaped praise on the striker for getting him excited about the club once again after the move from the London Stadium, which he admits is a ‘wrench’ he is still feeling.

Appearing on Jim White’s show on talkSPORT [10:12], he said: “I’m excited to see Hernandez, Chicharito starting to land now. So yeah, I’m pretty excited.”

“I think all of us still feel the wrench a little bit – the stadium wrench – but generally speaking yeah, really happy.”

OPINION

Brand is likely speaking for many West Ham fans here when he expresses his excitement about Hernandez’s return to form. So much excitement followed the experienced striker when he arrived at the London Stadium, with the club paying good money for him and putting him on a huge £140,000-a-week contract. Unfortunately for him and the club his move has not quite worked out as of yet, with a lack of form and game time hindering his effectiveness. In truth, a lot of his problems have been caused by managerial decisions, with Hernandez clearly being a striker who needs to play off someone else. The insistence on playing just one up top obviously limits his game so much, and that has played a bit part in his struggles so far. Recently however Pellegrini has begun to play with two strikers, and a big change has been seen instantly in Hernandez’s impact. Having a player with his finishing ability in form is bound to be a huge boost for the Hammers in the coming weeks, and hopefully he can keep it up in the long run.
