Arsenal target Wesley Moraes is more than good enough to play for the Gunners, according to current boss Ivan Leko.

The Club Brugges forward has been linked with a £15 million move to the Emirates, according to reports in the Sun made earlier in the week, and his manager believes that he is capable of making the transition to the Premier League which will have Arsenal fans delighted.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure, Leko said: “I’m sure Wesley has the level to play Arsenal.

“He can be proud of what he has done for six months: he works hard and he reaped the fruits. But to play in the Premier League, you have to work even harder, every day.”

He also fuelled speculation that the 22-year-old would leave Brugges, saying: “If I’m worried about the rest of the season? There are intelligent people at the club who are preparing for the future and anticipating the start.

“What will happen with Dennis, Wesley or Vanaken during the next transfer window, I do not care yet. ”

OPINION

Arsenal fans have been given no reason to distrust Unai Emery so far during his tenure, and if he thinks that Wesley is the right man for the Gunners then there’s no reason to believe otherwise. The Brazilian has been in fine form this season, scoring seven goals and assisting a further five in 16 league appearances, and could provide useful cover for star men Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. With Danny Welbeck out for the season and seemingly unlikely to receive an offer of a new countract, Emery would be well-advised to recruit this winter, especially given his side’s refusal to lose matches recently. The more successful they are, the more strain will be put on the squad as cup competitions progress into their latter rounds, and another striker could be very useful. £15 million is small change in today’s transfer market, and could prove to be a prudent investment if Wesley continues to progress at the startling rate that he is currently.
