When Reece Oxford burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old, all signs point to the long and successful career for the youngster.

Since then he has seen his opportunities limited at West Ham and has had to look elsewhere for first-team football. A successful spell in Germany last season helped to boost his profile, but since returning to the London Stadium the 20-year-old has struggled to force his way into Manuel Pellegrini’s plans.

Reports suggest that the defender will leave the Hammers to see regular game time should his prospects not improve in the near future.

If that is the case then Unai Emery’s Arsenal should swoop to land the England youth international.

There is no doubting his talent and with a regular run of football he could still grow into the player that he threatened to in his early performances.

Emery seems keen to give youth a chance and at the moment is facing something of a defensive injury crisis.

Oxford would be available for a relatively small fee in the immediacy and could prove to be the ideal investment for an Arsenal side looking to strengthen for the future while conserving funds this winter.

A move to the Emirates could well be a massively mutually beneficial deal.
