Newcastle United have been drawn to take on Blackburn Rovers in the FA Cup Third Round in January, which is not only significant for Alan Shearer but also Adam Armstrong, who moved to Ewood Park from the Magpies in the summer.

In reaction to the draw on Monday night, Armstrong took to his personal Twitter account to react to the news.

Newcastle’s official Twitter account responded to Armstrong’s tweet by saying to the striker: “See you in January.”

OPINION

Armstrong’s career never really took off at Newcastle before he joined Blackburn on a four-year deal in the summer. The 21-year-old has played regularly for Tony Mowbray’s side this season, but the natural striker has been used more as a winger by the Ewood Park boss, meaning he has only scored four goals in his 19 appearances across all competitions this term. If Armstrong plays in the FA Cup showdown then he will have a point to prove. The England Under-21 international was tipped for a big future at St James’ Park but really struggled to get game-time and has was constantly sent out on loan over the last few seasons until Mowbray splashed the cash in the summer. Will he bite the hand that once fed him? Or will Rafa Benitez and his defenders know enough about the 21-year-old to be able to stop him from playing in January? We can’t wait to find out.
