Newcastle United are readying an approach to sign Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham in the January transfer window, according to the London Evening Standard.

The newspaper has claimed that although Abraham, 21, is on a season-long loan at Aston Villa, Chelsea have the option to recall their striker and cashing in on him would be a add a “significant” sum to their transfer budget.

Your Local Guardian has recently reported that Abraham is valued at £10million.

Good move for Newcastle?

Abraham has been in stunning form while on loan at Aston Villa in the Championship this season.

The two-times England international has scored 12 goals in 16 appearances for the West Midlands club with eight of them coming in his last six outings.

Salomon Rondon is finding a goalscoring rhythm at St James’ Park but history has suggested that the on-loan West Brom striker can go through long barren spells without finding the back of the net.

Abraham has also struggled in the Premier League when he scored just eight goals in 39 appearances with Swansea last season, but for £10million, it would be a very nice piece of business by Newcastle.

Likely to happen?

It all depends on whether Chelsea need the money from Abraham that bad.

The striker is in great form at the moment so he will be worth a decent amount of money, but that value could be even higher by the summer if he helps fire Villa to promotion.

The Premier League giants have the option to recall Abraham and they can move him on, but will Mike Ashley let Rafa Benitez spend money on signing the England international?

It all seems unlikely right now.
