Tottenham Hotspur have suffered another setback with their new stadium, as the South Stand’s roof has been leaking, according to The Times.

The newspaper claims that pools of water are evident within the single-tiered stand, which has a capacity of 17,500 – set to be the largest for a single stand in the Premier League.

Spurs sources are said to have told The Times that the issue is a minor problem that can be easily fixed, and that it’s not anticipated to delay the opening of the stadium.

The South Stand has been modelled on the ‘Yellow Wall’ at Borussia Dortmund’s ground. This leak is the latest problem with a stadium build that has been fraught with difficulty for Tottenham.

OPINION

How many more problems are Spurs going to have with this stadium before it opens? There have been countless issues getting their new ground up to speed and it has already been delayed numerous times. For something as seemingly inane as a roof leak to occur at what is supposed to be a top of the range facility is quite embarrassing for Tottenham. However, the club have become rather used to that emotion where their new stadium is concerned. They just need to get the ground open now because it’s becoming a sideshow that distracts from the great work manager Mauricio Pochettino is doing on the pitch. Spurs are having a successful season both domestically and in Europe, and the only thing that’s going wrong at the moment is this new stadium. Now the roof is leaking? It’s likely an easy problem to fix but the issue is that it makes the club look amateur-ish yet again. Tottenham need to get the stadium sorted out because it’s becoming beyond a joke now.
