Jose Mourinho had a short message for the waiting journalists when he left the Lowry Hotel – where he’s been living while manager of Man United – after being sacked on Tuesday morning.

In a clip posted by BBC journalist Dan Roan, Mourinho wound the window on his car down so that journalists could take photos.

His slightly cryptic message was brief and very simple, “Be careful”.

Roan posted the brief clip on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday afternoon.

OPINION

The end of an era at Old Trafford – and the Lowry Hotel come to that. It wasn’t a particularly memorable era and it’s not the one that Mourinho would have expected at potentially the biggest club in the world. His tenure will go down in history as one of the worst of modern times and could possibly spell the beginning of the end of Mourinho as an elite coach. He comes with too much baggage these days and his ideas and style of football seem completely out of step with the modern game. Look at Man City and Liverpool if you want the blueprint for a modern-day manager. He’s got charisma though, you have to give him that. Ever the showman, he gave the waiting journalists the shot they were looking for as he left the Lowry Hotel and a cryptic message than might be seen as really sinister if Mourinho was in a different line of work.
