James McFadden has claimed that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos always seems to be blamed for whenever he fails to score.

Morelos, 22, has been in great form this season, scoring 17 goals in 31 appearances across all competitions, however he fired a blank in the 0-0 draw at Hibernian on Wednesday night, meaning the Gers lost their spot at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Scotland assistant manager McFadden believes that other Rangers players need to be sharing the goalscoring burden with Morelos, pointing out that right-back James Tavernier is the only other player who is really getting on the scoresheet regularly.

“Morelos is the man that scores all the goals. He had plenty of chances last night again, he always does. But when he doesn’t score he seems to get the blame,” McFadden told Sky Sports.

“Tavernier’s chipped in with a few goals, mostly pens and free-kicks, but that’s a fullback. You need other players, your midfielders, the wide players getting in on the act,” he added.

“You need your No 9 to be scoring goals and when he’s not, you need your midfielders and wide players to be chipping in as well.”

OPINION

McFadden is spot on here and that is why Steven Gerrard will be itching for the transfer window to re-open in a couple of weeks because his he is majorly lacking a midfielder who can have an impact in the attack. Scott Arfield has been decent this season, but the Canada international is prone to having a bad game or two and doesn’t really score too many goals. What Rangers really need is an effective No 10, someone who can play behind Morelos, supply him with assists on a regular basis and even chip in with 10 or so goals before the end of the season. Rangers had a player like that last season in Josh Windass, except the now Wigan player blew hot and cold and went missing the big games. What the Gers need is a an upgrade on Windass who is more consistent and scores just as many goals. If Gerrard and Mark Allen can find themselves a player like that then they are in for a good second-half of the season.
