Gary Lineker raved about Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson after he pulled off a sensational save in a 3-1 win against Burnley.
Not only did Alisson save an almost certain equaliser from Burnley at the death with a world-class save, but he had the wherewithal to set-up a counter-attack that was finished off by Xherdan Shaqiri to put the game beyond the plucky home side.
And it prompted Lineker onto Twitter where he hailed the Liverpool goalkeeper, saying that the Klopp ‘gamble’ to play a weakened team had paid off. Just.
Klopp’s gamble pays off thanks to a sensational save from Alisson which led to a breakaway for Shaqiri to clinch it at 3-1. Great @BBCMOTD tonight.

This is why you pay the big bucks. Liverpool paid over £56million for Alisson but he’s been quickly paying it back ever since. He’s got everything in his game and he showed it all tonight in one passage of play that showed he’s got a fantastic football brain as well as cracking reflexes. A different keeper tonight and Liverpool might have dropped two points tonight as they bid to keep pace with Man City at the top of the table. In fact this was the exact sort of game that Liverpool were dropping points in before Alisson arrived. The save and the quick start to the counter-attack showed why the new modern goalkeeper, like Ederson at Man City, is so crucial to an elite team. Quite brilliant and worth staying up and watching on Match of the Day tonight. Liverpool stay in second after this win, two points behind Man City at the top but six points ahead of Tottenham in third. It’s a two-horse race this season but there’s still one big favourite.
