Leeds United are plotting a swoop to sign £6.5million-rated Hull City star Jarrod Bowen in the January transfer window, but are facing competition from Newcastle United, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claimed in their live transfer blog on Thursday [03:28pm] that Newcastle and Brighton have both registered an interest in the 22-year-old, however it has been suggested that a switch to Elland Road would be more beneficial for the winger due to the increased chances of first-team football in the Championship.

It is understood that while Hull want at least £6.5million for the KCOM hotshot, Leeds are hoping that they can strike a January deal for less.

Good move for Leeds?

It says a lot about Bowen that he is not only wanted by the Championship leaders, but also two Premier League teams that are trying to fend off the threat of relegation this season.

The former Hereford attacker has been in sensational form for Hull this season, scoring eight goals in 23 appearances across all competitions, including recent braces in wins over QPR and Swansea.

He is only 22-years-old, so he has the potential to be Premier League quality in the future.

Marcelo Bielsa will be pulling off quite a coup if he can beat Newcastle and Brighton to Bowen’s signature.

Likely to happen?

Are Leeds that likely to spend £6.5million in the January transfer window?

If they were going to splash the cash on reinforcements then surely it would be for a like-for-like replacement for Samuel Saiz, rather than a replacement for Pablo Hernandez, who is now occupying Saiz’s role.

Leeds haven’t had any issues filling spots in their attack, it’s their defence that’s the issue as four goals conceded in the last two games would point out.

Bielsa needs a goalkeeper and defenders before attacking players like Bowen.
