Matt Le Tissier has named Gylfi Sigurdsson’s goal in Everton’s 2-1 win at LeicesterĀ in October as his favourite goal of 2018.

The Iceland international won the game for the Toffees with a cracking effort from distance after a neat bit of skill to get away from one of the Foxes defenders.

Southampton legend Le Tissier was blown away by the 29-year-old’s long-range goal and hailed it as the best one scored in the whole of 2018.

“I would probably say Gylfi Sigurdsson, who scored an incredible goal at Leicester a few weeks ago, where he did a little Cruyff turn in the middle of the pitch before smashing it in the top corner. I love goals like that from 25, 30 yards out, it was just one of those moments,” said Le Tissier, as quoted on the Sky Sports website.

OPINION

Le Tissier may have loved Sigurdsson’s goal against Leicester, but last week he seemed to enjoy Andros Townsend’s volley against Manchester City even more so these quotes were probably done before that game, because Townsend’s goal was unbelievable. Sigurdsson’s goal was very good, but Townsend’s was definitely better and it managed to take what should be the best goal in 2018 in one of the last games of the year. Sigurdsson always has something like that in his locker and we’ve seen it already on a few occasions since he joined Everton from Swansea last year. The senior midfielder has been brilliant for the Blues this season, scoring nine goals and supplying three assists in 20 appearances across all competitions. He was instrumental in the 5-1 win at Burnley on Boxing Day, and he will be hoping that he can continue that form against Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.
