Joe Gomez signed a new Liverpool deal that will keep him at Anfield until 2024 and Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to the youngster in his pre-match press conference ahead of the crunch Champions League game against Napoli.
He said that his development has been “incredible” since he’s been at the club.
He added that Gomez was “brilliant” last season and “outstanding” in this campaign.
Klopp on Gomez deal: "Since I've been here his development has been incredible. A bit delayed due to a serious injury and then he needed a bit of time. Last year he was brilliant and this year he was outstanding. This is the right club for him, the right environment."

High praise indeed from Klopp but Gomez has earned all of it, and the new deal he has signed should cheer him up as he prepares to rehab after his shattering injury blow. It’s hard to believe that he’s still only 21-years-old, such is the quality of his performances this season, but he does have the advantage of playing with Virgil van Dijk, possibly the best centre-back in the world at the moment. Gomez couldn’t be in a better place to develop and while Liverpool will be weaker without him, they’ve now got him locked down on a super long-term contract. He is set to be a star of the future at Anfield and on the world stage. He’ll have to watch and pray like the rest of the Liverpool fans that his Champions League interest isn’t over for the season as Liverpool prepare to host Napoli tomorrow night in a high-stakes game at Anfield. Only a win will do but Liverpool have the quality to get the result they need.
