David Gold has claimed that West Ham fans were able to outsing the Newcastle United supporters at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Javier Hernandez’s brace and a last-minute goal by Felipe Anderson were enough for the Hammers to earn themselves a big victory in the North-East and end Newcastle’s three-game winning streak.

West Ham co-owner Gold was delighted with the performance of Manuel Pellegrini’s side and he was also full of praise for the travelling supporters, who managed to be louder than the home support despite the huge difference in numbers.

“Terrific 3-0 away win against Newcasle. 3000 West Ham away fans out sung nearly 50,000 Newcastle fans. Amazing well done,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Saturday night.

OPINION

Well it’s not hard to outsing opposing fans if you are 3-0 up but when you are sat in the heavens like the West Ham fans were at St James’ Park on Saturday, then it is quite impressive. There were hundreds of Newcastle fans who staged an 11th-minute walk-in in protest to owner Mike Ashley, but that didn’t really have an impact on the overall atmosphere on Tyneside this weekend. It did make the Newcastle supporters look a bit daft though because as they walked in, they were treated to Hernandez bagging the opening goal for West Ham. That was the first that the Magpies supporters saw of the game as well as the game was not being shown on the televisions inside the ground so that supporters were basically forced to take their seats if they didn’t want to miss anything. It was petty by the club, but the Magpies fans need to stop this protesting and support the team now. It’s not making any difference on Ashley and his cronies so what is the point?
