Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has voiced his worries over the team dynamic of West Ham as he names a first team duo from east London in his team of the week.

The Hammers comfortably beat Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday, Javier Hernandez scoring a brace with Felipe Anderson netting the other, and the Mexican hitman was joined by left back Pablo Zabaleta in the pundit’s chosen XI.

However, Mills raised his concern about the manner in the Irons’ balance when it comes to getting the individual talent to work as a team and despite the confident win on Tyneside feels as though they are still struggling.

He wrote in his Sky Sports’ column: “Javier Hernandez scored a couple for West Ham, who have a lot of good individuals but don’t always come together as a team.

“They are still working on the team dynamic after bringing in so many players in the summer.”

Opinion

Anyone watching on against Newcastle would not have said there was any real imbalance in that West Ham side but there have been times this season when Mills’ verdict has been spot on. Yes, they spent big in the summer and most of the players brought in have had a positive impact but there are still times when they struggle to click, which is why it seems manager Manuel Pellegrini is still yet to select a settled starting XI. Unfortunately for the Chilean boss he has had to deal with plenty of injury problems which keep shaking things up and make it difficult to pick a regular side but Saturday’s performance was perhaps the biggest sign that the Irons are close to finally clicking together. Any new additions over the January window will of course disrupt that, especially if they are made for the first team and so the boss needs to be wary about too many changes too quickly.
