Sky Sports pundit Kris Commons has said that Rangers star Daniel Candeias can consider himself hard done by in the controversy surrounding the disciplinary issues mounting at Ibrox.

The Gers have picked up eight red cards this season, the highest number out of any of Europe’s top flight leagues, with the Portuguese winger having two of those sending offs to his name.

However, Commons insists that neither of those dismissals should have actually been red cards – one being the controversial second yellow which has seen Rangers appeal to the SFA – and that he is unlucky to have those count against him and the club.

Commons told Sky Sports’ coverage of the clash against Dundee (09/12, 13:17): “It’s the petulant side of things that will be annoying the management at Rangers. I think when you’re throwing elbows around or kicking people, that’s a problem.

“I think Daniel Candeias can feel very hard done by, I think both of his red cards haven’t been reds. Also, that will go against them in terms of the stats.”

Opinion

Commons has hit the nail on the head. Candeias has suffered not one but two injustices against him this season and is massively unfortunate that he has to be considered part of the problem at Ibrox this season. You would think that Steven Gerrard and the rest of the backroom staff at Ibrox recognise that and have not wasted too much time talking to him in a bid to try and fix the disciplinary problems that are clearly plaguing the Light Blues. He perhaps needs a little bit of guidance as to how to properly manage his game when he is already booked but that is never going to help when the officials are making what are deemed to be mistakes by the club. The real problem lies elsewhere in the squad – all eyes on star striker Alfredo Morelos – and so Candeias, nor the management team at Ibrox, does not really need to worry that he is going to be a problem in future fixtures.
