Chelsea went into their Europa League game against Vidi on Thursday night with the group already won and ended with a 2-2 draw to keep their unbeaten record intact.
It gave Maurizio Sarri the opportunity to play some of his younger players like Ethan Ampadu, who’d only made a 27-minute cameo appearance this season before tonight.
Unfortunately, it will be a night to forget for the 18-year-old, who marred a pretty decent first-half display by putting the ball into his own net for a Vidi equaliser.
Chelsea fans were happy to look past that and thought he had a composed game but they weren’t so complimentary about right-back Zappacosta.
He arrived for £22.5million from Torino in the summer of 2017 but he’s never settled as a first-team regular and on tonight’s display it’s easy to see why.
The 26-year-old right-back has played all of Chelsea’s Europa League games but the fans hated what they saw tonight and flocked onto Twitter to let him know what they thought of him.
One fan said he was the worst footballer he’d ever seen while another questioned how his move was ever sanctioned by the Chelsea board for £22.5million. It’s a good question.
