West Brom targeting Prijovic swoop

|

West Bromwich Albion have joined a five team race for former Derby County frontman Aleksandar Prijovic, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet claims that the Baggies will look to beat Premier League sides Burnley, Southampton and Crystal Palace, as well as Championship outfit Middlesbrough to the signing of the PAOK striker.

The 28-year-old has been in phenomenal form since joining the Greek team, scoring 27 goals last season and netting another 13 so far this term.

However, the journeyman attacker has a release clause present in his contract which could see him return to English football.

Good move for West Brom?

Do West Brom really need another frontman? Darren Moore’s side have been prolific this season and have blown several teams away already this campaign. They already have Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez banging the goals in up front, as well as Harvey Barnes contributing on a  regular basis as well. There’s also Hal Robson-Kanu who has looked good in recent weeks, so it’s hard to say that they need more firepower up top. Surely additions in central midfield or full back would be better for the Baggies? However, giant forward Prijovic, who stands at 6ft 3in (source: Transfermarkt) has been on fire since moving to Greece so he could represent a nice signing, but probably not one that West Brom are crying out for.

Likely to happen?

Due to three Premier League sides being interested it’s hard to see Prijovic choosing a switch to the Baggies. He would surely pick one of the top flight teams instead, while Boro would provide stern competition as well. Don’t hold your breath on this one.
