Aston Villa are in the hunt for Brentford midfielder Romaine Sawyers in the upcoming transfer window, according to Football Insider.

The reliable outlet reports on their website that Villa boss Dean Smith is keen to reunite with the 27-year-old, who has over year left on his current contract at Griffin Park.

The report adds that the Championship outfit are also keen to add a centre-half to their ranks in January, with the club looking to bring in a few signings during the New Year.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Yes, it would be a good move for Villa in January. Smith is fully aware of what Brenford ace is capable of – after all, he was the manager that signed him and worked with him – so a swoop for him seems like a no-brainer really. He operates as an attacking midfielder, so he would compliment the likes of Jack Grealish perfectly and get more goals for the team. If Villa do sign him, he could potentially be the difference between them getting promoted or staying put for another season.

Likely to happen?

A move seems likely considering that Smith knows the midfielder well, but whether that interest materialises remains to be seen. It will not be known until January whether Villa will make an offer for him – or whether Brentford will be willing to part ways with his services. He is arguably one of their most talented players so they are unlikely to let him leave without a fight, so it looks like Villa will have to try their best to convince them to sell.
