Samuel Saiz has delivered the bombshell news to Leeds United he wants quit and return to Spain in the January transfer window, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The regional newspaper claim the playmaker, 27, has delivered the bombshell news to the club at a time when is being strongly linked with a move to La Liga club Getafe.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report Saiz’s partner is “pregnant” and “unsettled” in England and he has been looking to head back to his native Spain since the summer .

OPINION

This is out of the blue and a major shock. The timing is terrible, as Saiz is a key player for Leeds as they attempt to end their 15-year spell in the lower league doldrums with automatic promotion. The attacking midfielder has lost his regular starting place over the last six weeks, but he is widely regarded as one of the most gifted players in the Leeds squad and, indeed, the entire Championship. When on song, Saiz can be a maestro, using cunning, imagination and flair to evade opponents and create goalscoring opportunities. He can blow hot and cold, and Marcelo Bielsa has recently spoken of the player being low on confidence after an outstanding start to the campaign. Leeds are about to welcome Izzy Brown, a similar type of player, into the squad, but he hasn’t played for a year and can hardly be expected to deliver world-beating performances straight away. Leeds have a really delicate issue to deal with now, as they approach the January window struggling to keep a bona fide star.
