Samuel Saiz is ready to pack his bags and head back to Spain in the next 24 hours as his exit from Leeds United accelerates, according to Marca.

The Spanish publication claim the United playmaker is ready to put the finishing touches to a move to Getafe and could attend their La Liga clash against Real Sociedad at lunchtime tomorrow (Saturday).

Marca report Saiz might also undergo a medical at Getafe in the coming days as he looks to complete a return to his homeland before the January window opens.

OPINION

Given the speed at which this story is developing, there is a sense of inevitability about Saiz engineering his exit from Leeds. Not just during the forthcoming transfer window, either, but way before the 1 January timeline when winter deals can first be registered. What a blow for Leeds and their fans who have marvelled at the skill and ability of Saiz in the 18 months since he joined from Huesca for a fee of £3million that looked a bargain almost from the start. The playmaker went missing in the second half of last season after a six-match spitting ban, but he has been outstanding in the opening two or three months of each of the last two campaigns and it is only in the last six weeks that he has lost his regular starting place. Can Leeds afford to let him go at the midway point of the season when their promotion bid is looking so promising? No, they can’t. They are playing with fire by caving in so easily.
