Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack is in talks over a loan switch to Scottish Premiership side Motherwell, according to the Daily Mail

The newspaper report in their live transfer blog (Sunday, 16:11) that the Scotland international is keen on a return home with Motherwell in January.

The Mail claim that McCormack is looking to cut his spell at A-League side Central Coast Mariners short in order to return to Scotland.

McCormack is currently earning £40,000-a-week at Villa [Mirror].

Good move for Aston Villa?

It is pretty inconsequential to Villa what happens with McCormack.

The Scotland international has not been a part of the club’s plans for a long time now, and they will hardly be bothered whether he stays in Australia or goes to Scotland.

Obviously they will have a big part to play in the move, but as long as the finances are in place for Motherwell to pay McCormack’s wages, then Villa will inevitably sign off on the move.

Likely to happen?

It is not clear how advanced these talks are, but a deal could definitely happen.

Obviously Central Coast Mariners have a say in whether McCormack leaves, but his lack of impact for them means they are likely to let him go.

It will then come down to whether Motherwell are able to offer Villa a financial package which facilitates a switch.
