Leeds United will definitely sign a goalkeeper in the January window, according to Phil Hay.

The Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent reported on his personal Twitter account in an exchange with a supporter that the club are working on recruiting a new shot-stopper next month.

Hay expects a deal to be done, but “can’t imagine we’ll see much else” in terms of other Elland Road arrivals.

Marcelo Bielsa’s public stance is that he is happy with what he has got in terms of the playing squad and the club are not in the market for new signings in the forthcoming window. The unorthodox Argentine also raised the possibility at his media conference last week that the club might not sign anyone at all next month. Hay believes that is unlikely, as the season-ending broken leg for Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman has left inexperienced number one Bailey Peacock-Farrell with no proven competition for one of the key roles in the team. Given that the Northern Ireland international is erratic and has much to learn, despite pulling off the odd worldie save, it is imperative that United recruit a proven performer in goal who can challenge the incumbent and also slot straight into the side as soon as he pitches up at Elland Road. Whether fans like it or not, Bielsa will happily settle for that.
