Italian side Lecce are in negotiations with Nottingham Forest over the transfer of out of favour midfielder Panagiotis Tachtsidis, according to Alfredo Pedulla.

The Italian outlet claims that the former Roma man wants to return to Italy having endured a torrid time in England since joining Aitor Karanka’s side in the summer.

The Serie B outfit want to get a deal done quickly as they have a need for a central midfielder, while Forest surely won’t be averse to selling the Greek international.

Tachtsidis is yet to make an appearance for Forest in any competition this season, completely failing to make an impression on Karanka.

Good move for Forest?

The club might as well move on from Forest because Tachtsidis seemingly has no part to play at the City Ground moving forward. He hasn’t played one second of action this season and doesn’t appear to have any place in Karanka’s plans. It makes the decision to bring the Greece star in in the summer all the more baffling. It’s not like he’s been injured, he just hasn’t been selected at any point. Perhaps he simply hasn’t adapted to English football, which happens fairly often, and so it would make sense for Forest to make some money off him in January. He’s had success in Italy in the past and so a switch back there would seem to make sense.

Likely to happen?

Alfredo Pedulla’s report states that Lecce want to get a deal done quickly and that talks are already underway so it seems that this transfer will get completed sooner rather than later. Tachtsidis doesn’t seem long for English football and so a return to Italy appears likely to happen.
