Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann has claimed that a new deal for Leeds attacker Mallik Wilks is all but done and that as soon as his extension is signed he should confirm his loan through to the end of the season.

Wilks has been starring at Doncaster Rovers this season but with his Leeds contract set to expire in the summer, and his current loan set to expire on January 2, his future at the Keepmoat is in jeopardy.

McCann has warned both player and parent club about any potential break in his loan.

As quoted in Leeds Live, McCann said, “We’re hoping that is going to be done on Monday, or the latest, Wednesday. He’s not going anywhere else. As soon as he signs that extension he’ll be here.

“We don’t want any breaks in Mallik’s loan. I’ve been very clear with Mallik, his agent and Leeds that if there is a break then I’ll move on.

“I’ve got no time for people wasting my time or anyone else’s time. He either signs it on Monday or Wednesday or we will look elsewhere.

“I don’t want it to sound like a threat to Mallik or anyone, but we haven’t got time to waste. We’re trying to get into the top six.

“I believe all the paperwork is done with his contract at Leeds so hopefully the hold-up isn’t too much longer. It’s about Mallik and his representative going to Leeds and signing the documents and Leeds inviting them in.

“I’ve spoken to Leeds over the last couple of days and that should be done by Wednesday.”

OPINION

If that’s not meant to sound like a threat then we wouldn’t like to get on the wrong side of Grant McCann. All jokes aside though, this would be great new for Wilks and for Leeds. The attacker has scored eight times for the League One club and they seem desperate to keep him there for the rest of the season. With no obvious route into the Leeds side at the moment, this is definitely the best option for Wilks, but it all hinges on his new deal. The 20-year-old is out of contract in the summer and if he doesn’t sign the new contract he will be heading back to Elland Road after his New Year’s celebrations. According to McCann it’s a done deal though, with the player just needing to physically sign the new deal. Once that’s done we expect him to head back to Doncaster where he can continue impressing and look to force his way into Marcelo Bielsa’s thinking for next season. That could be in the Premier League if Leeds carry on as they started the season.
